The PPG Air Door system comprises of a single, double-acting air cylinder mounted beneath the body at the rear. The cylinder is connected to the taildoor locking bar and when charged with air will release the lower locking bar.
Once this operation is complete the air is directed to the two air cylinders that actuate and pull the lower gate open and then holds it in position. The movement of the gate to the open position also unlocks the top door and the gate is then able to swing in the same manner as a standard manual operations door.
To close and lock the door is simply the same process in reverse. The entire procedure is actuated via a switch in the drivers cab.
